Speed records that actually mattered
Record runs are mostly theatre. The train is stripped, the catenary voltage is raised, the track is inspected metre by metre, and the result has little to do with what runs the following Monday. A few, though, changed what engineers believed was possible.

1990, and the limit of steel wheels
The 515 km/h run demonstrated that conventional wheel-on-rail was nowhere near its ceiling. It also showed the practical constraint: at those speeds the pantograph, not the motor, decides how fast you can go.
Why 2007 was the interesting one
The V150 run used larger wheels, a raised voltage and a shortened formation. None of that is transferable to a daily service — but the aerodynamic and current-collection data from it fed directly into trains that now run at 320 km/h in ordinary traffic.
That is the honest measure of a record: not the number, but what quietly appears in the next generation of ordinary trains.
